TKZee is a pioneering South African kwaito group formed in the 1990s by Tokollo Tshabalala, Kabelo Mabalane, and Zwai Bala. The group rose to fame with their 1997 hit “Palafala”, followed by the massive 1998 success “Shibobo”. The song became the fastest and biggest-selling CD single by a South African artist, selling over 100,000 copies in just over a month.
Their debut album, Halloween (1998), was a monumental achievement, going Platinum with more than 200,000 copies sold. The album earned the group four South African Music Awards and firmly established TKZee as legends of the kwaito genre.
After reuniting in 2008, TKZee continued to leave their mark on the music scene, including a memorable performance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Tragically, Tokollo Tshabalala, a founding member and creative force of the group, passed away in 2022 at the age of 45, but his influence and legacy live on through the music.
